Welcome to CTR Showdown, a new game in which you battle in teams to gain the possession of tracks!
Form a team inside one of two larger coalitions, Aku Coalition and its evil counterpart Uka coalition! The goal is to try and conquer the entire 18 tracks of the game, by challenging the current track owners and their teams! There are three rankings, one by player, one by team and one by coalition, showing which player/team/coalition controls which track. At the start of the game, the tracks belong to the player who has the course WR, even if that player doesn't participate in the game. Then, each week, challenges can be issued by players who want to seize a track, and the track owner has to defend it.
Entering the game:
Each player must belong to a team, and each team to one of two global coalitions (Aku Coalition, Uka Coalition). A player must also say whether he is an exclusive NTSC-U player or not.
A team can have a maximum of 4 members. This is to increase team diversity.
If you join an already formed team, you must get the approval of the team captain.
If you create a new team, you become the team captain of that team, and must choose one coalition.
Example: "Hi, I am "newplayer01", I create new team "DreamTeam", in Aku Coalition".
or "Hi, I am "newplayer02", I am only a NTSC-U player, I want to join an already formed team".
and "Hi, "newplayer01" here, I accepted "newplayer02" in "DreamTeam".
Challenge format:
The format of the challenge is in general chosen by the attacker (exceptions listed below). Choice of format includes:
-Game mode (Course, Lap, SL or Relic Race)
-Number of minutes for the tries (from 0 to 20 minutes, once time is up, the player can still finish the course he is doing, but he can no longer restart a new one. 0 means the time must be done at first try)
Optional: -Character (Penta Pinguin can only be played with if both parties have at least one player who isn't an exclusive NTSC-U player).
Making a challenge:
Every player can make one challenge each week. Each start of the week, a new video is posted with all the changes of the previous week (challenge results, changes in players and teams). The player who wants to make a challenge must post a comment of the type: "Tiny Arena, Course, 10 minutes, Polar". Only one player can make a challenge per track. If two players challenge the same track, the one who posted first gets the right to challenge. If you are challenging a Capital, you can't choose the format, so you just write "Cortex Castle".
Challenge limitations:
If a player unsuccessfully attacked a track, he cannot attack it for the next two weeks.
A player can never attack a track owned by his own team.
Collective defense/attack vs Single player defense/attack:
In all cases, the person who made the best time wins the challenge. If a defender won, the track is successfully defended and its owner can keep it. If an attacker wins, he gets to keep the track. Collective attack can only happen during special challenges (example: Teams Changing Coalition mid-game), the rest of the time only the one who posted the challenge gets to attack.
Collective defense only happens in special cases (see Collective defense of special tracks and Team Capital).
In single-player defense, only one player can defend the track, but it doesn't have to be the track owner. Normally the track owner decides who defends his track. If nobody is chosen to defend the track by Tuesday evening, the track owner is automatically chosen as the defender. Following players can be chosen to defend in single-player defense:
-All team members if the attacking player is from the same coalition.
-All coalition members if the attacking player is from the opposing coalition.
Team Capital:
Each team can have its own Capital, and can collectively defend it, as well as choose the challenge format of the defense. The team captain chooses his Capital.
If the team doesn't have a Capital or if they lost it, they can choose any of their tracks to be the new Capital. By default, the next track captured by a team without Capital becomes their Capital.
Once chosen, it can only be changed again if the team captures a new track and wants to make it their Capital.
Collective defense of special tracks:
-Aku Coalition can collectively defend against Uka Coalition in the following tracks: Crash Cove, Tiger Temple, Coco Park, Mystery Caves, Blizzard Bluff, Sewer Speedway, Polar Pass, Slide Coliseum, Turbo Track.
-Uka Coalition can collectively defend against Aku Coalition in the following tracks: Roo's Tubes, Dingo Canyon, Papu's Pyramid, Dragon Mines, Cortex Castle, Tiny Arena, Hot Air Skyway, N.gin Labs, Oxide Station.
Players Changing Teams mid-game:
It is possible to change to another team in the middle of the game, however you must defend all your tracks against your former team, which will collectively attack them. You choose the game format when you announce your change of team. If you change to another coalition, your entire former coalition will collectively attack you. In every case, you have to defend your tracks alone.
If you own the Capital of the team, you automatically lose that Capital to the team captain.
Teams Changing Coalition mid-game:
It is possible for a team to change coalition mid-game, with the change being announced at the beginning of the week. To do that, the Team Captain must announce this decision as well as the challenge format for the defense of all the Team's tracks. The team will then face a collective attack from all members of its former coalition, on all its tracks. The team can collectively defend only their capital and the tracks of their coalition (ex: crash cove for Aku coalition), the rest must be defended by a single player.
A player can choose to leave his team and stay on the same coalition, either by joining another team or by creating a new one. If he does, he won't need to defend his tracks against his former team, or against his coalition.
Example: "DreamTeam" goes from Aku to Uka coalition. "player03" of "DreamTeam" decides to stay on Aku coalition, and takes his tracks with him. Everybody in Aku coalition can attack all remaining tracks from "DreamTeam" with the challenge format chosen by "DreamTeam" captain.
Schedule, time limits:
Late on sunday or early monday, the video is posted. If no video is posted, no challenge can be made that week and the play is simply suspended until next week. If the video is posted late, the limits can be exceptionally modified, but the following holds true in general:
You have until midnight on Monday to make a challenge.
You have until midnight on Tuesday to announce who will defend the track in single-player defense or to announce the challenge format if your Capital has been challenged.
You have until midnight on Wednesday to announce the challenge format if the defending team failed to announce it for their capital. If you don't announce it by then, the challenge is void.
You have until noon on Sunday to make and announce your time for a challenge, or to announce other things such as changing a capital or a player or team's allegiance.
Fairplay:
Only start playing when the challenge has been finalized: the defender must have been selected in single-player defense, and the challenge type in a Capital defense. Do not play the challenge if you haven't been chosen as the defender.
Do not cheat with the challenge itself, the number of minutes per tries must be respected. No restarting or pausing the chronometer!
Teams must learn to make decisions and agree with them. If a team can't agree on a decision, the game master may make the decision for them.
Failure to respect the rules or behave with a good spirit may lead to your being kicked from the game.
